Statement on Kieran McKenna’s departure from Ipswich Town

We at Bobby’s Vision share the immense shock and sadness felt by the entire Ipswich Town community at Kieran McKenna’s decision to step away from his role at Portman Road.

We wish to place on record our immense debt of gratitude to Kieran, for all that he has done for the club during his four-and-a-half years at the helm. Few would have expected him to achieve such success over such a short period of time, and the meteoric rise of the club during the 22/23 and 23/24 seasons is sure to live long in the memories of fans.

Thank you, Kieran, for the renewed sense of pride that you have instilled in the club and the fan-base; for helping to restore the link between the community and its football team; and for the dignity and integrity with which you have carried yourself as our manager. As promised, you have left Ipswich Town Football Club in a far better place than you found it.

We offer you and your family our sincere thanks and heartfelt best wishes for the future, whatever it may bring. We hope that your time at Ipswich is merely the first step in a long and successful career, which we will all no doubt follow with great interest, and no small amount of pride. Whilst we may be heartbroken that it is over, we could not be any happier, thankful, and proud that it happened.

Thank you, Kieran.

Uppa Towen.

Notes

Bobby’s vision is a fan led initiative of Ipswich fans seeking to honour Bobby Robson’s famous quote about football.

What is a club? Not the buildings or the directors or the people who are paid to represent it.  It’s not the television contracts, get-out clauses, marketing departments or executive boxes.

It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city.

It’s a small boy climbing up stadium steps for the very first time, gripping his father’s hand, gawping at the hallowed stretch of turf beneath him and, without being able to do a thing about it, falling in love
